news@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is recreating the ‘magic of Saturday morning cartoons’ with a free event for the community this weekend. The schools division’s mental health team, Community Coming Together, is hosting the free event that will feature Christmas specials including the stop-motion classic from 1964, Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July, along with others. Pajamas are encouraged for the “Cozy Christmas Cartoon Fest’ that will feature free bowls of cereal and hot chocolate. The cartoon fest kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7 in the newly renovated Curling Club’s Banquet Room. Donations will be accepted to support The Root Cellar and the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund. Student exchange Catholic students from Grade 8-10 interested in an opportunity to study abroad in Spain are invited to attend an upcoming information session later this month. The program between the division and Ken’s Education Group will provide students the opportunity to spend five weeks hosting a student in Canada from Spain, and then travel to Spain for three weeks attending school with your host student. According to promotional material the “Sisters Cities Exchange Program is an affordable means by which MHCBE students can spend time abroad learning a language and experiencing a new culture.” The information session begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at Monsignor McCoy High School.
