@MedicineHatNews Unionized public housing workers in Taber have agreed to an 8.5 per cent wage increase over the next three years, according to a summary of collective bargaining agreements released by Alberta Jobs ministry for the early fall. Clearview Lodge in that town is operated by the Taber and District Housing Foundation and funded by a tax levy in the M.D. of Taber, the towns of Vauxhall and Taber and the Village of Barnwell. On Sept. 9, management and 42 workers represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local No. 2038, reached a new three-year deal that provides 2.5, 3 and 3 per cent raises annually until May 31, 2026. In other agreements of interest to southeast Alberta: – Gas plant workers at the Canlin Energy Ferrier site have a first collective agreement under Unifor Local No. 4050. The 2023 deal was just recently filed with the province. The 10 workers will receive a 2 per cent raise this year, then a 2.5 per cent lump sum payment in 2025. – The pipeline contractors association multi-union agreement has been detailed with a $2 per hour reduction for pipefitters in the first year but 3.25 per cent increases in two subsequent years through 2026. Agreements with Teamsters Local No. 362 and Operating Engineers, Local No. 955, show initial wage freezes and similar raises in years 2 and 3. – IAFF firefighters and the City of Airdrie brought their contract up to date with a four-year deal, including 12.5 per cent pay raise, in a deal that expires at year end; – The City of Lethbridge and 75 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union, No. 987, agreed to a four-year deal with increases totalling 11 per cent on Sept. 17. – Camrose and 31 members of the Camrose Police Association signed off on a 7.5 per cent raise over the course of a three-year deal. – Capital Power and about 100 IBEW members at the Genessee power plant sites, near Edmonton, have a new two-year collective agreement that provides a 6 per cent increase followed by 2 per cent in 2025. 12
