Council and mayor in Brooks getting pay bump, with annual increases to follow

Members of Brooks city council will receive a pay raise after the next municipal election, then annual increases after that, that city’s council determined last week.

Effective November 2025, the mayor’s pay would be increased $10,000 to $72,000 per year, and a councillor’s salary would be $5,000 higher at $30,000 per year.

Annual increases of 2.5 per cent would follow according to an approved recommendation made by a non-council committee. It found that local compensation was lower than comparable municipalities with a population similar to Brooks’ 15,000 residents.

The percentage increase was recommended over a proposal to link annual increases for the general workforce.

The committee comprised two members of the local professional community appointed by council, one former council member and the city’s chief administrative officer.

It last updated renumeration policy in 2021.
