Minor Hockey roundup: U17AAA SEAC Tigers allow only four goals in pair of wins

The Medicine Hat U17AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers notched a pair of wins this weekend in consistent fashion.

They beat the Airdrie Avalanche 4-2 on Saturday before topping the Calgary Bulls 6-2 on Sunday.

Illya Khazov had two goals and an assist in the win Saturday, with Logan Neuls and Nolan Peppler each tallying a goal. Treyden Kleinknecht had a pair of assists, Kayden Van Ham made 26 saves.

In Saturday’s win, Kleinknecht led the way with three goals and an assist. Matteo Martone and Peppler each had a goal and two assists. Carson Jerome started the game and made four saves, Van Ham took over to make 31 saves for the win.

The U17AAA SEAC Tigers (4-6-0-1-2) host the Calgary Flames on Saturday at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U16

The Medicine Hat U16AA Hounds lost a pair of games this weekend.

They fell 12-3 to the Airdrie Lightning on Saturday and 9-3 to the CBHA Hawks on Sunday.

Chase Smyth and Dylan Taylor each had a goal and an assist in the loss Saturday, with Jaxon Martin notching the other Hounds’ goal. Treyton Wilson made 45 saves.

In Sunday’s loss to the Hawks, Brogan Verishine, Taylor and Martin each scored for the Hounds. Connor Schmaltz started the game in net, making 15 saves before Wilson took over and stopped 29 shots the rest of the way.

The U16AA Hounds (0-12) host the West Central Tigers for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday at the Kinplex.

U15

The U15AAA SEAC Tigers had only one game this weekend due to a postponed contest Saturday, The Tigers lost 3-1 to the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday in their first action since winning the 51st annual Hockey Hounds U15AAA tournament on Nov. 17.

Macen Ibach scored the Tigers’ lone goal, Paxton Smigelski made 26 saves.

The U15AAA Tigers (4-8) host the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Friday and the SPKAC Flyers on Sunday, both games at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U13

The U13AA Hounds put on two displays of offence this weekend, beating the Wheatland Braves 14-4 on Saturday before drubbing the Airdrie Lightning 10-4 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s blowout, Weston Haslbeck led the way with four goals and two assists. Teddy Maser also had six points, with two goals and four assists. Beckham Sprunger had three goals with two assists. Diesel Bishop had a goal and two assists, both Hudson Gilchrist and Raylan Johnson notched a goal with two assists and Haysten Biech had a goal and an assist. Blade Schreiner made 17 saves for the win.

Biech led the offence on Sunday with two goals and two assists. Sprunger and Bishop each had a goal and three assists and Johnson had a pair of goals. Haslback and Gilchrist shared honours, each tallying a goal and two assists and Maser had a goal and an assist. Tyson Nguyen had a solo marker and Dawson Ressler made 29 saves.

The U13AA Hounds (11-2) sit in fourth place of Alberta Hockey’s U13AA league. They’ll host the East Kootenay Avalanche on Saturday and the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday, both games at the Kinplex.
