news@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is encouraging any families, individuals, school staff, classes and local businesses, who are able to spare some time, stand or sit with a Salvation Army Christmas Kettle this season. The annual campaign that raises funds to help provide hands-on services to more than 1.9 million Canadians in need of food, clothing and shelter began Wednesday and finishes Dec. 24 at noon. In Medicine Hat there are 13 kettle locations at retail outlets. Volunteers are needed to complete shifts of two-hour increments between 10 a.m and 8 p.m. daily. Residents interested in volunteering are encouraged to call Shirley Greenflied, kettle co-ordinator at 587-253-0740. Christmas Eve mass The Catholic division is looking for students to participate in this year’s Christmas Eve Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, as well as participating in a nativity play at Holy Family Parish before mass. The division is seeking students from Grade 1-6 to participate in the children’s choir for the Christmas Eve Mass at St. Patrick’s Church that begins at 5 p.m. Two hour-long rehearsals are scheduled for the children’s choir, Saturday, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon.
