news@medicinehatnews.com Performing arts students at Monsignor McCoy High School have announced the dates for their upcoming The Wizard of Oz performance that will run from Dec. 11-13. Tickets are now on sale to join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man as they embark to find the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City. The school will be selling tickers at their office and on SchoolCash for $20 each. Performances will run nightly beginning at 7 p.m. with rush seating at the MHC Eresman Theatre. November break There will be no classes for students in local Catholic schools next week during November Break, Nov. 11- 15. Schools will be closed for Remembrance Day followed by a non-operational day and three division-wide professional development days. All classes will resume Nov. 18. The division has posted its calendar two years in advance to help parents plan for time away from class. Find next year’s calendar on the division’s website. Season of Advent Each year leading up to Christmas the division lights a candle each week on its Advent wreath to recognize gifts that have been given, and for “us to see that we go from darkness into light.” Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical year in the Church, each of the four weeks represent hope, peace, joy and love. The candles used are purple for hope, peace and love and pink for joy. 12
