Next month will offer a series of workshops for those living with chronic pain or conditions, provided by AHS. “Better Choices, Better Health is a six-week series of workshops designed to support Albertans who are living with chronic pain and/or chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, depression or weight management concerns,” says AHS. Starting Nov. 12, workshops on managing chronic pain will be available for those seeking information on chronic pain self-management. The workshops will run every Tuesday for six weeks from 6-8:30 p.m. A similar series of workshops on chronic disease self-management will run from 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks, starting Nov. 13. Both workshops will be delivered over Zoom. Workshop sessions are led by trained volunteer leaders, many of whom live with a chronic health condition. “This approach ensures an understanding of the challenges participants face, and provides a supportive and welcoming environment,” said AHS. Participants will learn techniques to manage their symptoms, tips for healthy eating and becoming more active, strategies for talking with health-care teams, methods for dealing with difficult emotions and options for making everyday tasks easier. Interested participants require access to a device that connects to the internet, and has both a camera and microphone, and can register by calling 403-529-8969 or toll-free at 1-866-795-9709. 9
