MICHAEL J. SAUTNER

MICHAEL J. SAUTNER Michael J. Sautner, age 86 passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, at his home, Delmanor in Richmond Hill. Born on April 12, 1938 in Mendham, Saskatchewan. Michael worked in over 30 countries primarily as a Commissioning Manager in the Oil and Gas industry, finally settling in Kincardine for many years. He is predeceased by his wife Catherine (Barker) and survived by three children: Michelle (Dustin), Patricia (Paul), Kevin and two grandchildren Alexa and Brayden, who were the joy of his life. Michael will be remembered for his kind and friendly personality, who enjoyed a good social outing. He had an unwavering commitment to the Roman Catholic Church where he was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, who, without hesitation could share all the details of any historical sports figure. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and residents at Delmanor Elgin Mills who welcomed him with open arms and went above and beyond to make Michael comfortable in the final chapter of his life. The funeral will be held on Monday October 28 @ 1:30pm at Our Lady Queen of the World Parish 10411 Bayview Avenue followed by A Celebration of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion 233 Centre Street East in Richmond Hill, to begin at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Michael’s name.

DIANNE LUNDQUIST June 10, 1951 ~ October 19, 2024
Dianne Lynn Lundquist passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 73 years. Along with Curt, her loving husband of 51 years, Dianne’s memory will be cherished by her son, Mark (Carrie); granddaughters, Michaela, Rayleen and Jorja; brother, Don (Carol) Pennycook and her sister, Lorraine (Len) Olson. She is also survived by Curt’s family, sister, Elsie Lundquist; brothers, Leonard Lundquist and Dale (Joan) Lundquist; cousin, Thomas Walker of Berlin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Edna Pennycook; in-laws, Werner and Isabelle Lundquist; brothers-in-law, Ed and Joe Lundquist; sister-in-law, Joyce Lundquist; uncle and aunt, Stan and Anne Walker as well as her cousin, Jim Bob Walker.
Dianne was born in Medicine Hat on June 10, 1951, and was raised in Ralston until 1964, when her parents moved the family to Medicine Hat. Dianne attended CHHS from grades 7 to 12, and after graduation, Dianne attended Lethbridge College where she took the Registered Nursing program. She worked at the Brooks Hospital when she was set up on a blind date with Curt. After a brief courtship, Curt and Dianne were married on September 22, 1973, and in 1974, they moved to Medicine Hat. Dianne worked at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for 25 years. She worked in labour and delivery, maternity and was instrumental in setting up the endoscopy unit where she worked until she retired. Dianne and Curt owned and operated Hops & Scotch Liquor Store for 20 years before selling it and really retiring! She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and doctors on 4West of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their amazing care and compassion they provided to Dianne during her stay.
A Celebration of Dianne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. GARY SHANNON

GARY SHANNON 1936 2024 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Shannon on October 18, following a lengthy illness. Gary was born May 22, 1936 in Vancouver and returned to Red Deer with his parents 6 weeks later. He attended school in Red Deer and was active in Army Cadets. Gary’s first job was as a tinsmith with Gilleland Sheet Metal installing furnaces. Later he worked for 1 year at the PTS (Ash) helping the machinist rebuild a steam engine generator that has been purchased by the Alberta Government from the Nordegg Coal Mine. Winding coils for heavy duty transformers was the next job at Pioneer Electric. An opportunity presented itself to become a fireman in the power plant at the PTS which led to a career in power plant engineering and property management for 36 years. After retirement Gary continued property management with Edon Management and part time Justice of the Peace in Medicine Hat. Left to mourn are his wife Loree of 69 years, 2 sons, James (Tracy) of rural Olds, Bradford, 1 daughter Stacy (Todd) and 3 grandchildren, Miranda Lowe, Brenna Shannon and Chris Lowe, all of Calgary and 1 brother, Michael Shannon of Red Deer. Ron Fetch of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024, at the age of 69 years. Ron leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ryan (La Rae), Sarah (Wayne), and Breanne (Jeff); grandchildren, Gavin (Brittany), Ashlyn, Aspen, Ainsley, Easton, and Emerson; brothers, Terry (Diane), Rick (Crystal), Willie (Diane), and Keith (Tamara); sisters, Judy (Chris) and Joyce; friend and companion, Theresa; and her children, Michele (Marty) and Shane (Lisa); grandchildren, Richard, Samara, Connor, and Keaton; great grandchild, Zaden; brother, Keith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Velma Fetch; brother, Ken and sister, Darlene. Ron was born on September 4, 1955 in Regina, Saskatchewan where he spent his early years. In 1982, he relocated to Medicine Hat, where he discovered his true calling as a Health Care Aide. His compassionate care left a lasting impression on the many residents whose lives he touched. He was recognized for his sharp wit, charisma, and deep passion for 10-pin bowling. This beloved sport filled his life, as he dedicated countless hours at the bowling alley, playing, sharing critiques, and offering advice to his children, teammates, and anyone eager to learn. When he had a moment to spare, you could find him enjoying a game of cards, where many believed he was truly fortunate. Despite facing numerous health challenges throughout his life, Ron showed unwavering strength and resilience. He never let these obstacles define him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Carmel Hospice for their exceptional support and dedication during Ron’s final days.

BRIAN ELLE
Brian Elle of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Angela, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the age of 71 years.
Brian was born in Medicine Hat on June 5, 1953, the youngest of five siblings. He grew up on the family farm in the Golden Prairie area surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. After moving to Medicine Hat when he was 15 and graduating from Crescent Heights High School, Brian tried his hand at pipeline installation, as an electrician’s apprentice and in the retail clothing industry. He then found his passion in financial services. Along with Ingrid and Les, Brian became a founding partner in Capital Strategies. He spent many years working with individuals and families in Alberta to build and protect their financial goals.
Besides his loving wife Angela, Brian is survived by children Peter (Jaclyn Smith) Grosset, Elizabeth Grosset, and Victoria (Jamie) Lees. Grandchildren Hanna, Hailee, Emilie, Brandon, Sarah, Jenna and Charlotte and Greatgrandchildren Draydin, Matteo and Marley. Sisters Leona Herter and family and Linda Horton and family. Brother Ron (Lynda) Elle and family; brothers-in-law Terry Pettijohn, Tim (Kathy) Scherger and Robert (Sandra) Scherger and their families; sister-in-law Brenda Scherger and family, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his parents Albert and Mary Elle, his parents-in-law Peter and Betty Scherger, his sister Bernice Kunz, brothers-in-law Lloyd Herter, Jerry Kunz, Jay Horton and Patrick Scherger. Brian is also survived by a stepdaughter Stephanie Aldred.

Ida Widmer went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Benjamin Widmer. She is survived by her loving children, Richard Widmer of Rocky Mountain House, Craig (Cathryn) Widmer of Seven Persons and Linda (Ernest) Mudie of Elkwater; seven grandchildren, Candace (Anthony), Blake (Morgan), Lisa (Shane), Ashley, Tyrel, Michael and Chrystina, and four great grandchildren, Lily, Jace, Bennett and Austin. She is also survived by three brothers-in-law Art (Joyce) Widmer, Al (Doreen) Widmer, Henry Ziegenhagel and three sisters-in-law, Doreen Telford, Madeline Widmer and Violet Thunberg. Ida was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Christina Ehman, all her siblings and their spouses; Bertha (Bill) Wagner, Alma (Emil) Hausauer, Clara (Percy) Stephens, Ruby (Emanuel) Stickel and Alfred (Emily) Ehman, her in-laws Alfred and Franzisca Widmer; three sisters-in-law Anne (Ed) Stahl, Esther Ziegenhagel, Joan Widmer and four brothers-in-law Victor Widmer, Paul Widmer, Bill Widmer and Winston Hewitt.
Ida was born on July 17, 1931, and grew up on a farm in the Wisdom area. On October 20, 1951, she married the love of her life, Benjamin Widmer in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Following their marriage, they lived on a ranch near Maple Creek, eventually moving to the home place south of Seven Persons where they farmed for 40 years before retiring to Medicine Hat. Mom was first and foremost a homemaker who was dedicated to her family and raising her children. She had a love for gardening which provided for our family, a love for quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting, again which all kept us clothed and warm. After they retired to town, mom became an avid bowler and loved her weekly outings to the bowling alley. She was also a volunteer at The Post for many years. After Dad passed, Mom sold her house and bought a condo at Norwood Grande where she lived until her passing. Her family was very special to her and she will be greatly missed by all.
