A short YouTube video recently posted on the ‘Unison for Generations 50+’ page highlights four ways residents can support the Veiner Centre’s Meals on Wheels program that delivers hot or frozen meals to individuals unable to make their own due to a variety of reasons.

The video, which is just over one minute in length, highlights the growing need for the meal delivery service in the Hat and says more than 5,000 subsidized meals were provided for individuals in financial need in 2023.

The video highlights the importance of providing a service that offers a nutritious meal to its average client base around the age of 78.

“As the need continues to grow, so does our challenge in sustaining the program. That’s why we’re asking for your support,” states a text shown in the video. “Every dollar goes to providing meals, wellness checks and vital connections for our seniors.”

According to the video, a donation of $56 will provide a week’s worth of subsidized meals for seniors in need. Donations of $160 will fund a week of volunteer meal deliveries, as drivers travel approximately 160 km daily. A donation of $224 will provide a month of meals for a senior living with financial insecurity.

Many clients who use Meals on Wheels face problems preparing meals due to age-related illnesses, loss of mobility, disability and recovering from surgery. The service is also used to provide caregivers a break and alleviate stress.

All meals come with a main course that includes a protein, starch and vegetables, as well as salads, desserts and homemade soups.
