RCMP in Brooks looking into potential hate crime after complaint about antisemitic literature

Brooks Mounties are investigating a potential hate crime after a complaint that antisemitic literature was left on driveways in the Fairview area of that city on the weekend.

Witnesses told police they saw two individuals in dark clothing distribute the packets that included posters and “grains of rice” between 4 and 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers have canvassed Fairview Way, collecting packets and requesting any home security surveillance footage that might exist.

A release states the material targets an identifiable group and potential charges include the wilful promotion of hatred.

The investigation is ongoing.
