In response to high levels of interest, Cypress County Fire Services has added an additional two sessions for its Family First Aid Course.

This non-certified course is taught by a certified instructor, and is intended to allow family members to provide basic emergency care, such as dealing with choking, administering CPR and basic injury treatment.

Medical first response is the most common kind of call for fire services to receive, says Jason Linton, director of emergency services, in which they provide preliminary care until EMS can arrive. Out of all of these calls, the ones in which family members have started CPR or other appropriate care often have better outcomes.

With the initial session in Dunmore full, CCFS is offering a session on Nov. 2 from 1-4 p.m. at the Dunmore Fire Station, and one at the Irvine Community Resource Centre on Nov. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration for both sessions can be found on the Cypress County Fire Services Facebook, or by calling Fire Administration.

Those interested are asked to register before Oct. 25.
