LUCY ROLLHEISER
1930 ~ LUCY ROLLHEISER ~ 2024
Lucy Marie Rollheiser of Medicine Hat, beloved wife and mother/(great)grandmother, passed away on Sunday, October 13th, 2024 at the age of 94 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Steven (Kathy) Rollheiser and Barbara (Phillip) Grehan; grandchildren, Tareyn (Brandon), Alex (Kira), Katie, Rachel, Mark, Eric, and Clare; great-grandchildren, Leon, Everett, Stevie, and Rasmus; sister-in-law, Liz Rollheiser; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Brigetta Wist, her husband, Florian Rollheiser, and all her siblings.
Lucy Rollheiser (nee Wist) was the youngest of 12 children and born in the family farmhouse in Liebenthal, SK to German immigrants from the Volga River basin area of Russia. Her childhood was framed by the Dirty ’30s/Great Depression, a hard-scrabble life on a pioneer prairie homestead, and being the youngest in a BIG family. She had a fierce desire to carve out her own path, and pursued getting an education despite parental incomprehension of her choice. She met husband-to-be Florian in high school, and after brief training in Moose Jaw, embarked on a 35+ year successful teaching career that started with a one-room schoolhouse in the corner of a Denzil area field, then to several small schools in the Meadow Lake district, and eventually to the multi-room school in Goodsoil, SK. Over several years, Lucy and Florian worked to get B. Ed. degrees from the U of S and eventually moved to Saskatoon with their two children to finish their teaching careers. They retired in 1980, and relocated to Medicine Hat, first to an acreage on Holsom Road, and later to their Park Meadows condo. Widowed in 2010, Lucy continued to enjoy a healthy, active, and independent life until a massive heart attack that led to her death about two weeks later.
Lucy loved her husband and family, gardening, playing cards and tile rummy, telling jokes, writing and performing skits, playing the slots at the casino, and connecting with the many friends and relatives in and around Medicine Hat and elsewhere. She remained a devout and involved Catholic until her death, having supported the CWL for over 60 years and praying daily for a long and evolving list of family and loved ones facing difficulties. She was generous to relatives in need and supported numerous charities.
Lucy’s family wants to thank the staff and doctors on 4W at MHRH and Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home for their excellent and compassionate care and recognize the many friends and relatives for their amazing support and friendship extended to Lucy over the years.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4V3, on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, at 10:30 am with Fr. Iqbal Khurshid, Celebrant. Lunch will be provided in the Church Hall by the CWL at 11:30 am followed by interment in the Roman Catholic Section at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. If unable to attend the Mass, family and friends are welcome to participate via live stream by logging on to youtube.com and joining the live webcast at Medicine Hat Holy Family Church. FRED BEAUPRÉ
FRED BEAUPRÉ 1945 ~ 2024
It is with great sadness the family of Fredrick Beaupré announce his passing on September 20, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette, and will be lovingly remembered by sons Corey (Denise), Christopher (Vanessa) and grandchildren Erica, Ryan, Cameron, Chloe, Shaelyn and Brynna.
Fred was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta as the youngest of three boys, raised by his mother and attended school in Medicine Hat before joining the workforce. Although he experienced certain hardship in his formative years, it helped shape a resilient, hardworking man who enjoyed learning new skills.
He met his future wife, Jeanette, at a New Year’s social gathering in 1967. When he first saw the lovely young lady in a red dress, he said, “I’m going to marry that woman.” And so he did, for over 52 years until her passing in May 2021.
Fred was first employed by the City of Medicine Hat as a dedicated facilities employee before being recognized for his leadership skills and was promoted to management where he remained for several decades. He was often at the Medicine Hat Arena well after working hours, taking great care in preparing the venue for games and tournaments. In fact, Fred received the honour of being inducted into the Zamboni Hall of Fame prior to his retirement.
Fred and Jeanette proudly raised two sons, Corey and Christopher. The young couple first settled in Redcliff before moving permanently to the Crescent Heights area where they built a life surrounded by family and friends. Fred embraced the responsibility of providing for his young family, equipping them with advantages he didn’t have and building a stable platform to succeed. He spent quality time teaching Corey to fish and attending the boys’ busy extracurricular schedules. Fred was very active in the baseball coaching community leading several teams to City championships.
Fred loved travel and adventure. He was forever researching and dreaming of his next destination. Every summer, a family road trip to western Canada or the United States was planned.
Fred emphasized the importance of education to his sons and his cherished grandchildren. It was a priority for him to ensure they receive the advantages of a higher education. His greatest source of pride was celebrating the graduation of his grandchildren, including his two youngest granddaughters this past June. He encouraged all his grandchildren to continue down the lifelong path of learning.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society or Medicine Hat Library Board. To leave a message of condolence you may visit
