Christmas is coming, and this year the CPKC Holiday Train will arrive in Medicine Hat on a Sunday.

The food bank fundraiser and concert tour has traditionally arrived in the city mid-week for afternoon festivities at the Canadian Pacific Kansas City marshalling yard on N. Railway Street.

This year, the special train adorned with Christmas lights and a performance car will pull in for the local concert on Sunday, Dec. 8 at about 3:15 p.m.

Musical acts K.T. Tunstall and American Authors are scheduled to perform before the train leaves at about 3:45 p.m. for performances at Tilley, Brooks and Gleichen later that evening.

Before arriving in the Hat, a 12:45 p.m. stop is planned in Maple Creek.

The Holiday Train stop in Swift Current is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 following an afternoon show in Moose Jaw.

The Canadian leg of the tour begins Nov. 21 in St. John, N.B. and concludes Dec. 20 at Port Moody, B.C.

Since 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than $24 million for food banks along the route, according to a company release.

This year’s activities will also comprise the former Kansas City Southern network of 22 locations in Mexico.
