Minor hockey roundup: U15AAA SEAC Tigers sweep weekend

The U15AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers opened up October with a pair of wins.

The Tigers beat the South Side Southgate Lions 3-1 Friday at the Hockey Hounds arena.

Gibson Studer tallied a goal and an assist, and both Carter Gilchrist and Chase Droeske scored solo markers. Lucas Fisher had two assists and Paxton Smigelski made 34 saves.

They carried the momentum into a 7-0 shutout win Sunday over the Lethbridge Golden Hawks.

Smigelski stopped all 24 shots he faced for the shutout victory. Fisher had two goals, Carter Jarvis put together a goal and two assists and four Tigers – Tryp McFadzen, Gilchrist, Nelson Sonna Soufo and Macen Ibach – added one goal each.

The U15AAA Tigers (2-2) are off until Oct. 19 and 20, both games on the road.

The U15AA SEAC Tigers picked up a point across two games over the weekend.

They opened with a 4-4 tie versus the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.

Everett Ward had a pair of goals, Beckham Girletz scored a goal with an assist and Shane Mathe tallied a solo marker. Maddox Mikkelson had three assists, Bryden Tschritter made 32 saves in the draw.

The Tigers lost 4-3 Sunday to the East Kootenay Avalanche. Mason Pollard had a goal with an assist and both Liam Jaspers and Girletz scored. Hunter Munro made 40 saves in the loss.

The U15AA SEAC Tigers (1-2-0-1) have one road game this weekend.

U17

The U17AAA SEAC Tigers lost both games on their opening weekend.

The Tigers lost 5-2 Friday to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, and 5-2 to the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday at home.

Carter Allan and Matteo Sartore each scored on Friday and Carson Jerome made 36 saves in the loss. Illya Khazov had a goal and an assist on Saturday and Treyden Kleinknecht found twine with a goal. Kayden Van Ham made 29 saves.

The U17AAA Tigers (0-2) are on the road Saturday and host the Calgary Bulls on Sunday for a 4:45 p.m. contest at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U16

The U16AA Hounds lost a pair of games over the weekend.

The Hounds lost 2-0 Saturday to the Wheatland Raiders and 9-5 to the Bow Valley Timberwolves on Sunday.

Connor Schmaltz made 50 saves in the loss Saturday.

Against Bow Valley, Caleb Whyte-Duheme had a goal and an assist and four Hounds – Logan Potvin, Cole Hodgins, Jaxon Martin and Alexander Schabler – each scored a goal. Treyton Wilson and Schmaltz split duties in net, making a combined 31 saves.

The U16AA Hounds (0-3) host the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday at the Kinplex (1 p.m.) before a road contest Sunday.

U13

The U13AA Medicine Hat Hounds split their weekend of action.

They kicked things off with a 10-1 win Saturday over the Foothills Bisons.

Weston Haslback led the offence with three goals and two assists for a five-point night. Beckham Sprunger had two goals and two helpers and Raylan Johnson added a goal with two assists. Hudson Gilchrist, Talon Stolz, Teddy Maser and Ben Rocheleau each scored a goal. Blade Schreiner made 19 saves.

They finished the weekend with a 5-2 loss Sunday to the Bow Valley Timberwolves. Johnson had a goal and an assist and Maser scored a solo marker. Dason Ressler made 29 saves in the loss.

The U13AA Hounds (2-1) are off until Oct. 19 and 20, a pair of home games against the Golden Suns and Lethbridge Hurricanes.
