OLIVER OST
OLIVER OST February 6, 1942 ~ September 30, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that Carol announces the passing of her beloved husband, Oliver Melvin Ost. He passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age of 82 years.
Long-time rancher, Oliver Ost, of Seven Persons always wanted to ranch. As a young man, he often worked two or three jobs to buy land, or cattle, or better bulls.
The eldest son of Olander and Lillian Ost, Oliver was loved by and married to his sweetheart, Carol Hjelmen of Val Marie, Saskatchewan on November 4, 1972. Oliver and Carol have two children, Karla and Michael.
Karla and her husband, David Long, along with their two sons, Walker (Layne Stevenson) and Houston, farm near Walsh, AB.
Michael and his wife, Kimberly, along with their five children, Shelby (Brayden), Jamieson (Jenna Ahrens), Kaleb (Hannah Weinrauch), Emma-Joe (Jeff) and great-granddaughter, Daisy-May, and Haylie; farm on the family’s homestead. Oliver also leaves behind his sister, Linda Richards of Lethbridge, and her daughter, Dr. Kimberly Richards of Vancouver. Oliver was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Ed and Robbie.
Oliver loved country life. He loved to see a buck deer bounding up a hill, or a see a new calf safely on the ground. He seldom took time to go to a stampede or a dance because he had a goal that required his work to reach some ranch-related agenda. The exception to that would be how proud he was to see his grandsons, Walker and Houston team rope together. It was important for him to see his grandchildren finish high school, and he encouraged them to train for their career interests.
Michael and his family took over Ost Cattle Company as Oliver’s diabetes limited his later life. Oliver and Carol moved to Medicine Hat and Carol was able to provide his medical care at their home until recently. Karla supported her parents’ health on a daily basis as friends and family phoned or paid them a visit.
A genuine thank you goes to the medical professionals from southern Alberta including the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, ambulance drivers who transported Oliver to hospital emergency, Home Care which aided him staying in their home for so long, and Haven East where he was welcomed in this final stage of his life… in what loving arms you held Oliver.
We will miss your strength and wisdom, Oliver Ost!
A Come & Go Celebration of Oliver’s life will be held in the Reflections Reception Facility, Milestone Room (north entrance), 937 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, October 14, 2024, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at

ROXANNE ROSE
ROXANNE ROSE October 29, 1959 ~ October 2, 2024A fearless warrior, Roxanne Louise Rose lost her fight with cancer after a courageous battle. She passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 64 years. Left to remember Roxanne are her two sons, Jeffery (Joni) and their children, Emmett and Hudson; Nicholas (Jenna) and their children, Nixon, Blakely and Boden; loving partner of 19 years, Larry Hoeppner; his children, Falone (Dave) (Jocelyn and Rylan) and Jolene (Matt) (Stella) as well as his extended family; sisters, Linda (Tom) and Heather as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by her father, Harvey; mother, Barbara; brother, David and brother- in-law, Danny. Roxanne was passionate about her family especially her grandchildren who she always referred to as her ‘little rosebuds’. Spending time at the lake was very important to her whether it was playing bridge, crib, crafting or just relaxing. Roxanne proved how strong she was as she went through rehab and overcame alcoholism as she truly wanted to be present in her grandchildren’s lives. Roxanne always loved hearing from Jeff and Nick and watching her grandsons play hockey. She has always been so proud of her sons and their accomplishments. The last three months have been extremely hard on everyone as she tried so hard to fight and be strong. Through all her anxiety and pain there was nothing she wanted more then to be able to have more time with family. Unfortunately she couldn’t catch a break and cancer won the battle. Roxanne will be missed so much! She is now free from the pain and can now rest peacefully. A Celebration of Roxanne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Roxanne’s name may be made directly to St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, 156 – 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 5M1.(Condolences may be expressed by visiting

ELILA KLOSE
ELILA KLOSE 1934 ~ 2024
Elila Klose (nee Truderung) passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Lily will be lovingly missed by her husband Erwin to whom she was married for 70 years. Also cherishing her memory are her four daughters, Renita (Ian) Graham, Karen (Roger – predeceased) Friesen, Norma (Emil – predeceased) Gutsche, and Marnie (Rick) Burry. Lily was also blessed to have seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, her sister, and two brothers as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Two of her sisters passed away previously.
Lily was a wonderful hostess over the years. She entertained friends and family weekly with delicious roast beef dinners and fancy fruit torten, along with numerous other baked goodies. She enjoyed planting flowers and gardening, knowing the names of many plants and how to care for them, also working at a local greenhouse for several years. Sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery were a passion of our mother. She sewed multiple matching outfits for her brood of girls, and displayed many of her crafted items in her home.
Lily’s dearest treasures were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent countless hours making sure they knew they were loved. Any one of them entering a room would put a smile on her face. She shared her love of Jesus with others, having a great faith in God. Now she has reached her final destination and is in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
We wish to thank the Wellington and Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home for making mom’s last few months and days comfortable.
