RCMP locate 60 grams of fentanyl in stolen vehicle arrest

Mounties in Bassano say they arrested a man and woman in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday and a subsequent search turned up 60 grams of fentanyl.

An RCMP release states that officers located the vehicle reported stolen from Calgary on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Esso truck stop on the TransCanada Highway.

Cole Mclean, 36, of High River, and Cecily Mather, 29, of Cypress County, were taken into custody and face potential charges of theft over $5,000 and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

County car spree

Brooks RCMP is asking for public assistance after car windows in several communities were smashed overnight on Wednesday. Authorities say that damage was reported in Duchess, Pleasant Park and Sunnylea between 8:30 p.m on Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Church vandalism

Vandals broke in and smashed dishes, threw food and poured paint on furniture at the Brooks Alliance Church sometime overnight at on September 24 and 25, Brooks RCMP say. The investigation is ongoing.

Semi rollover

A transport truck driver has been charged with careless driving after mounties found a truck turned over in the ditch on the westbound TransCanada Highway near the rest stop west of Brooks on Sept. 27. A passenger in the truck was thrown from the vehicle but sustained only minor injuries which were treated at hospital.
