City of Prince Albert strikes $10-million name rights agreement for new twin arena and leisure centre

By Medicine Hat News on October 3, 2024.

The City of Prince Albert has struck at $10-million agreement with its regional Co-op for the 25-year naming rights of a new twin arena and leisure centre, the parties announced Tuesday.

Now dubbed the “Lakeland Co-op Leisure Centre,” it is set to be completed later this year at a cost of $118 million.

Approved in 2019, it will include eight-lane 25-metre pool, dive tank and spectator seating for 200 in the aquatics centre. Two NHL-sized ice surfaces will have seating for between 250 and 500 spectators in each.

Design includes a future phase that would add a 4,500-seat spectator rinks and concert venue.

The current project received a $22 million grant from the federal government, and will also result in $30 million in debt to the city of Prince Alberta, plus an additional $18 million in debt approved this year to stand in place of ongoing, multi-year fundraising.
