Less-lethal pepper ball used by police in traffic stop related to investigation

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on September 20, 2024.

The Medicine Hat Police Service deployed less lethal pepper ball munition during a vehicle stop Thursday.

Police say around 2:20 p.m., members of the service, including members of the tactical team, conducted a vehicle stop in the 100 block of Sprague Way in relation to an ongoing investigation.

During the stop, police say the lone occupant of the vehicle, a male driver, was uncooperative with instruction and refused to exit the vehicle.

As a result, police deployed less lethal pepper ball munition, allowing officers to safely take the male into custody.

Due to proximity of the arrest in relation to George Davison School, the school was voluntarily placed in a hold and secure, which police say lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The investigation is ongoing.
