GERRY EHLERT

GERRY EHLERT 1953 – 2024
After driving through the Southern Alberta landscape with his wife and life partner, Terri, Gerry passed away suddenly on August 27. Gerry will be greatly missed by Terri; daughter, Shauna; grand-daughter Kate; siblings, Joe, Dieter, Sue (Dan), and Richard (Monica); nieces and nephews, Megan, Ryan, Abby, Lily, Erin, Ria, Taylor, and Blake; and many other relatives and friends. After a lengthy career as a public servant with the Province of Alberta, Gerry and Terri chose to retire in Medicine Hat.
Gerry had a kind word and a smile for everyone he met. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for Alberta’s native grasslands and environmental protection that led him to volunteer with the Grasslands Naturalists. With them, Gerry worked to control and educate about invasive species and develop the Scenic Views project. Gerry was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He loved music, film, reading, travel, and being in nature. He played many sports, and hockey was life. He was a teacher, poet, advocate, and learner. He was a loyal friend and had a mischievous side.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 6, 2024, at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church at 1:00pm with Pastor Dave Pollard officiating. Lunch to follow service.
Those who wish can donate in Gerry’s name to the Grasslands Naturalists (https://grasslands-naturalists.org) or Mustard Seed Medicine Hat (theseed.ca).
