Three local youths are facing criminal and provincial charges following a fatal collision involving a 15-year-old who was operating a moped.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 18, Medicine Hat Police and Fire services as well as EMS responded to a collision at the intersection of Strachan Road and Spruce Way involving a motor vehicle and a moped.
The ensuing investigation has revealed the moped was travelling westbound on Strachan and was about to turn southbound onto Spruce Way when the 15-year-old driver was struck from behind by a westbound vehicle.
Police also say the operation of a separate vehicle was found to contribute to the cause of the collision.
As a result of the collision the young teen was transported to hospital with serious injuries but later succumbed to those injuries.
Following the investigation one male youth who cannot be named has been charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death and two other male youths were charged with provincial traffic offences.
Police say aggressive driving was a primary contributor to the collision. Alcohol was not a factor.
“The Medicine Hat Police Service offers condolences to the family and friends of the youth who was killed during this tragic event,” reads a social media post.
