JAYNE DIANE SLAWSON

JAYNE DIANE SLAWSON Jayne Diane Slawson, 68 of Fort Langley BC passed away at home lovingly surrounded by her family after a terminal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Jayne was born August 12, 1956, the first of 4 children (Marianne, James, Patricia) to Mel and Anne Ogston in Lethbridge AB. The family moved to Medicine Hat AB in 1971. Jayne graduated from CHHS (1975) and then acquired her nursing diploma at the MHC. She worked at the local hospital and health unit where she kick started a 36 year nursing career having working in both maternity/labour and prenatal/postnatal education. During this time Jayne married Dale Slawson and went on to have two children (Kristina and Robert).
Jayne’s family then moved to Nelson BC (1989) where for 26 years she nurtured her family, got involved with numerous community events; all the while obtained her Bachelor’s of Nursing degree online which enabled her to broaden her community nursing experience. Jayne also acquired her License Lay Worship Leader (Parish Nursing), a calling that matched her gentle nurturing nature. She was known to say her nursing career covered womb to tomb.
In 2012 Jayne and Dale were on the move again this time to Fort Langley. Jayne soon surrounded herself with new friends and better yet, her grand girls (Addison and Katelyn) were close by, plus Robert could fly directly into Abbotsford from Regina.
Over the last decade or so Jayne and Dale, fortunate to have retired early, frequently travelled abroad and across Canada accumulating many fond memories together.
Jayne satisfied her idle time reading, sewing, cooking, working on puzzles, puttering around in her flower beds, enjoying daily walks, but time spent with her children and grand girls was her ultimate joy.
Celebration of Jayne’s life will be held at Fort Langley United Church (9025 Glover Road) on Sunday August 25th at 4:00pm followed by a gathering of fellowship to most importantly share fond memories of Jayne with one another. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made instead to your local Cancer Society or MAID Care Coordination Centre organizations Jayne felt strongly about.
Every day we will search our hearts and find you there…..you are always a part of us

GARY THOMAS LOCKHART

GARY THOMAS LOCKHART
It is with extreme sadness that we share the passing of our husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. Gary Lockhart passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

Gary will be missed by his wife, Patricia; son, Sean (Angela) and grandson, Anderson; daughter, Erin (Barry); sister, Diane (Doug); brothers-in-law, Ted (Kathy), Rod (David), Doug (Tracy); cousins, nephews and nieces, and dear friends.

Gary is predeceased by his parents Andy and Bertha Lockhart; in-laws Jack and Evelyn Sharman; cousin Jim; brother-in-law Evan; and friends Russ, Heather, Cathy, and Don.

Gary was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1951 to a loving family involved in all aspects of the farming community. 4H and curling… he enjoyed and excelled at both. Given Gary’s wonderful way with words, outgoing personality, and hard work, he was chosen for a national 4H Selection trip to Toronto in 1969 after being voted valedictorian of his graduating class.

Farming was Gary’s calling. While attending Vocational Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, Gary met Patricia through mutual friends, and it was the beginning of a beautiful love and friendship. Married June 1, 1973 in Saskatoon, they moved to Winnipeg with agricultural work, then to the family farm in 1974 to join his father, Andy.

Gary and Patricia were blessed with two wonderful children. Life revolved around the family, the farm, and a great farming community – can’t get much better than that.

Gary was always enthused about innovative electronics and soon became an area representative for satellite dishes and for farm computer software. This was in the early 1980s at the cutting edge of these advancements. A lover of music, our home often boomed with rock and country. He was a heck of a good dancer.

There wasn’t much that Gary couldn’t put his hand to, not just with binder twine and duct tape. He was vehicle enthusiast and all-around handyman. In the fall of 1995, Gary sold the farm and pursued a real estate career, starting in Medicine Hat. He very much enjoyed his colleagues at Royal LePage. With his in-laws in poor health and needing them, Gary and Patricia moved to Victoria in 2001, where Gary continued as a realtor.

After moving to Abbotsford in 2006, Gary spent time renovating the house and studying the stock market. Gary was a news junkie and loved a good political discussion. On a trip to Ireland to see Erin, the heartwarming highlight was visiting the Letterkenny farm his father left behind to immigrate to Canada. Multiple vacations to Mexico were special with family and friends.

We will miss Gary’s wonderful storytelling, sense of humour, and strong presence. Much loved. Never forgotten.

We extend gratitude to the care given by Abbotsford paramedics and ICU staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice or to the CNIB, one of Gary’s charities, in honour of his mother. The family will gather to celebrate Gary’s life at a date to be determined.

Kari was a determined young lady to make life in a new country of Canada despite leaving behind her family consisting of her parents, one brother and two sisters. Despite Kari’s limited English-speaking ability, she worked hard for the Acadia Valley family and also found time to meet a young charming man named Sig (Siegesmund) Brittner; soon after their meeting they married on November 5, 1956. Kari and Sig had 4 wonderful children and took up farming in the Richmound Saskatchewan community
Kari and Sig moved from Richmound Saskatchewan to Medicine Hat Alberta despite having many friends and great relationships in Richmound. Kari absolutely flourished in Medicine Hat. Here is where she became active with the Church , volunteered with different organizations and became employed by Tip Top Tailors. Her story at Tip Top was one of hard work and being so appreciated and trusted by so many customers. Kari won sales awards at Tip Top and she was awarded a trip to Quebec City to receive a Canada wide sales award that made her and her family so very proud.
Kari will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family, her children David (Bonnie) Brittner, Ingrid (Duncan) Chisholm, Robin (Heather) Brittner and daughter-in-law Yvonne Brittner. In addition, Kari was a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Norway and Sweden.

PHYLLIS LAMB

In Loving Memory of PHYLLIS LAMB 1932 – 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Phyllis Ione Lamb on August 15, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Phyllis will be missed by her “chosen children” son Michael, grandchildren Randy (Nicole), Brandy (Darryl) and Elvis; their mom Darcy; great-grandchildren Lennie, Huxley, Anthony and Margo; daughter Jody (Ian) Magill, grandchildren Kathryn and James (Kylie) Stark; great-grandchildren Gracie and Eli; brother Bob (Muriel) Kenyon; sister Carlee Dreger; sister-in-law Lorraine Lamb; and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Harold in May 1985, her parents Tom and Gladys Kenyon, and sister Jean Lovane Jensen.
Phyllis was born on October 9, 1932 in Cypress River, Manitoba, where she spent her early years forming lifelong friendships. Phyllis was a very determined and independent woman with many passions including researching and writing books on the Dowd, Kenyon and Lamb family histories. She pursued her dream of being a teacher and especially loved her years teaching at Clydebank school near Eriksdale, Manitoba.
She married Harold in 1956 and built a successful dairy farm operation. She loved being a mom, and the biggest joys in her life were bringing home Michael and Jody and being a grandma and great-grandma. Phyllis was a dedicated hockey and figure skating mom attending games and competitions and being one of the biggest cheerleaders in the stands. She was active in the community with Ladies Aid, 4-H, curling, concerts, and carnivals.
After Harold’s passing, Phyllis and Michael continued to farm for many years eventually transitioning from dairy to cattle farming. Phyllis had tremendous pride for the farm from her large and plentiful vegetable garden to hours spent in her flower beds and painting the many buildings and white fences.
She loved the company of family and friends and always had a pot of coffee and treats ready for visitors. She was a good and loyal friend with a wonderful smile that brightened any room!
Phyllis left the farm in 2012, to move closer to her son Michael’s family. She moved to Medicine Hat in 2023, to be with her daughter Jody. A special thank you to the caring staff and friends she made in Stonewall, Woodlands Manor, Cypress View Foundation and Medicine Hat Care Community, especially her dear friend Ray who filled her last year with dances and outings to church and for ice cream.
A celebration of life honouring Phyllis will be held in Manitoba in 2025. She will be interred at the Cypress River (Glencoe) Cemetery next to her mom and dad. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice in Phyllis’ name. Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
