@MedicineHatNews A Hat man will spend three months in jail after he was caught by a homeowner selling tools taken from her garage on Facebook Marketplace this month. Court heard Tuesday that the Ross Glen area homeowner discovered on Aug. 9 that her garage door was open and items missing. She reported the crime to police, provided security footage that showed five figures leaving the property, then watched for the items on social media sales pages. She spotted the various power tools wrenches, batteries and a baseball bat, valued at $2,900, and then confronted the seller, re-obtained the items and called police, Court of Justice heard on Tuesday. Sebastion Yanke, 21, pleaded guilty to three charges and was sentenced to 90 days in custody and 12 months probation, some restitution to the homeowner and substance counselling. The sentence considers guilty pleas to break and enter (60 days), failure to abide by a curfew (15 days) and wearing a mask during the crime (15 days). They will be served consecutively, less nine days credit for time already served since the arrest. Yanke will be allowed to serve the remainder on weekends so he can work in the construction field. 10
