The Western Canadian Baseball League will crown a 2024 champion this weekend.

The Okotoks Dawgs opened the quest for a third-straight championship with a 7-4 Game 1 win Thursday night at Seaman Stadium. The Dawgs scored six runs in the bottom of the second and held on as Moose Jaw pushed back with four runs in the third.

Moose Jaw outhit the Dawgs 13-6 in the loss. The Millers will look to keep the series alive Friday night, hosting Game 2 at Ross Wells Park. That game was not complete by press time.

If Moose Jaw wins, a decisive Game 3 heads back to Seaman Stadium for a second year in a row. The Medicine Hat Mavericks forced a Game 3 in the 2023 league finals, falling 13-5.

If Okotoks wins Friday, they’ll capture a third-straight Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy for the second time in franchise history, completing a three-peat in 2007-09. A Dawgs championship would be the eighth in franchise history. Moose Jaw looks to pickup a second notch on the belt, last winning it all in 2002.
