PARAM PAVAN (NEE PARAMESWARY THAMOTHERAM) June 21, 1930 August 4, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Param Pavan, who left us peacefully on August 4, 2024. Born on June 21, 1930, in Sri Lanka, Param’s life was a testament to dedication, generosity, and love.
Param’s educational journey took her from early education in Sri Lanka to specialising in Health & Physical Education in India to completing her Master’s in Education in the United States, showcasing her dedication to learning and growth. A respected elementary school teacher, Param’s career spanned from high school and junior high teaching to shaping young minds at the elementary level. She taught in Medicine Hat from 1969 until 1987, when she moved to California to continue her teaching career there until her retirement. Among her notable achievements was earning a scholarship for her Master’s Degree and being honoured with the award “Who’s Who Among American Teachers.” These accolades reflect her commitment to education and her exceptional impact on her students.
Param married Sara Pavan in 1974 and they shared many happy years together until his passing in 2013. After retiring in 2005, they returned to Medicine Hat, where Param enjoyed her retirement until moving to Edmonton in July 2024 to be closer to her family in her later years. Her move to Edmonton allowed her to be surrounded by loved ones during her final weeks.
Param took immense pride in her independence and active lifestyle, and had a zest for life that was evident in her diverse interests. She enjoyed line dancing, cribbage, bingo, and exploring casinos. Her passions also extended to travelling, fishing, gardening, and reading, all of which she embraced with enthusiasm and joy.
Predeceased by her husband, six brothers, one sister, and her parents, Param is lovingly remembered by her four surviving sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family was her greatest joy, and her generosity and loving nature touched the lives of many. She was instrumental in helping numerous family members immigrate to Canada, ensuring they had a better life. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
Her Celebration of Life was held on August 11, 2024. To view the service please visit her Obituary at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/edmonton-ab/param-pavan-11930855. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cross Cancer Institute in her memory.

WILFRED REHM

WILFRED REHM 1931 ~ 2024 Mr. Wilfred Paul Rehm passed away in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace; two sons, Kelvin (Kim) and their two sons, Quintin and Clayton; Rob (Denise) and their family: daughters, Brianne (Blythe), Abby (Connor) and their son, Jayke. Wilfred was raised on a farm in Southern Saskatchewan with his parents, grandparents and his siblings, Annie, Helen, Johanna, and John. “Willy”, as most people referred to him as, was a very hard working man in the oil patch for nearly forty years of his life. He had a great sense of humour that most people appreciated along with a bit of a mischievous side. Wilfred was a kind, caring, soft spoken man who easily won over the hearts of friends and family he spent time with. Wilfred will be sadly missed by those he got close to. He was not a man that enjoyed the spotlight, but rather he made sure that people around him were in his spotlight. Willy did not need a lot of fuss made about him as he enjoyed being at home and having the slow routine of life and family fill his days. Dignified cremation has taken place. Wilfred will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service.
