Fourteen Hatters made the cut Wednesday to put them in contention for the Open championship, as well as prize money for the pros and a spot on Team Alberta for the amateurs. Three Hatters sit in the top 10. Dillon Batsel (pro, Blume) finished the second day as the highest ranked local golfer, sitting fourth with a second round of 69. Mike Valk (amateur, Blume) tied for the lowest round of the day, shooting a 65 to start play Thursday in sixth. Ryan Werre (amateur, Blume) sits at eighth with a 72 second round. The 11 other Hatters to make the cut were: Ryan Hodgins (amateur, MHG&CC) is 11th with a score of 71. Nolan Burzminski (amateur, MHG&CC) is 23rd with a score of 70. Wyatt Bishop (amateur, Blume) shot a second day round of 74 and sits 25th. Ryan Vallely (amateur, Connaught) is 28th after a round of 71. Owen Bruins (amateur, Blume) enters Thursday in 38th after shooting a 76. Brett Buye (pro, Studio Fore) shot a 75 on Wednesday, sitting 43. Desert Blume general manger Trevor Ellerman (pro) shot a 73 to sit 45th. Adam Antkowiak (amateur, Blume) shot an 81 Wednesday and sits at 56th. Sam Bratvold (amateur, MHG&CC) is at 55th, with a second-round 73. Mark Hutchings (amateur, Blume) finished Wednesday at 57th, with a round of 80. Corey Eakins (amateur, Connaught) sits at 60th after shooting a 76. Mitchell Fox, a pro from Calgary’s Speargrass Golf Course, sits atop the leaderboard at 12-under par after shooting a 64 on Wednesday. A total of 100 golfers started the three-day tournament on Tuesday. The final rounds Thursday get underway at 7:30 a.m., with the final group teeing off at 10:50 a.m. Werre tees off at 10:30 and both Batsel and Valk are part of the second last group, teeing off at 10:40 a.m. The championship is expected to be awarded around 3 p.m. 11
