@MedicineHatNews The developer behind a plan to build the Saamis Solar Park in northern Medicine Hat will pay $282,000 in costs of those who opposed the project during Alberta Utilities Commission hearings. DP Energy won approval to build the 1,600-acre solar power field in July after applying in early 2023 and a hearing last spring. On Aug. 8, the AUC awarded costs for the intervenors in typical fashion. Medicine Hat Concerned Citizens – a group of residents with general and environmental impact concerns concerns – was represented by the law firm Akroyd LLP, and will be reimbursed $105,800 for legal work and an environmental impact report. Journey Energy, an oil and gas producer with majority interest in the NW Field, argued its ability to access subsurface rights may be affected by power plant construction, and was awarded $83,500. It was represented by the law firm of Bennet Jones. Three adjacent landowners, known as Medicine Hat Land Developers, argued development of nearby parcels would be hampered. They were awarded costs of $93,000 for work done by law firm McLennan Ross and a land valuation report produced by Classic Valuations. Costs are payable within 30 days. 9
