Elkwater and area hosts handful of long weekend events

news@medicinehatnews.com From beach-side shopping or bingo to backcountry mountain bike races, Elkwater and surrounding area is hosting several long weekend activities for those planning to travel south down the 41. Thrifters might be able to find a good deal throughout the townsite as several cabins are hosting a community yard sale between 10 a.m and 4 p.m. Saturday. The Mom Market is also hosting a beach-side market with more than 15 vendors and six food trucks Saturday in the day use area near the beach between 11:00 a.m and 4 p.m. Founded in 2019, the Mom Market is an outlet to help promote small business by showcasing local shops at pop-up markets. The Union Races Union All-Terrain Obstacle Course Race runs Saturday at the Hidden Valley Ski Resort, featuring age group awards and open heats for the entire family. Youth 13 and under can participate for free. Sunday, Union Races is hosting a Back-Country Trail run with both a 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre event at the ski hill, as well as Back-Country Mountain Bike Races with finisher medals and timing for all competitors. The bike races will be a single lap format. Sunday evening the Community Hall is hosting a Family Fun Bingo event for all ages that includes cash prizes. Doors open at 7 p.m. and bingo starts at 7:30 p.m. 9-8
