A company that is completing a wind farm near Winnifred in the County of Forty Mile has applied to build a solar farm within its boundaries.
Enerfin Renewables filed the application with the Alberta Utilities Commission this week to build the 60-megawatt array on 240 acres of land surrounding the wind farm’s operations building.
That facility is located on Range Road 84, north of Township Road 114, about 35 kilometres southwest of Medicine Hat.
The 22-turbine, 122-megawatt, wind farm is planned for areas south of Rattlesnake Lake, and would be joined to the Alberta electrical grid via Enerfin’s Holsom substation to lines already approved along Township Road 120 to Highway 3. They then travel on to the Bullshead substation, five kilometres south of Medicine Hat.
Some upgrades to the substation would be required according to the company’s application.
If approved this fall, the company states, construction could begin in the spring of 2025 and completed by late in the year.
A timetable for the AUC consideration or public feedback has not been released.
