American Legion: Monarchs pick up win on the road this weekend

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs recorded a win and a draw in four contests.

The Monarchs started the weekend with a close loss, falling 1-0 to Chanhasen Post 580 on Friday.

Trevin Ressler and Kayne Olinski each had four hits and both Ryler Straarup and Jeff Bullock had three hits.

Straarup started the contest on the mound, working six innings with seven strikeouts. Cade Harrison worked the final inning of the game, recording two punch-outs.

They won the second game of the weekend, beating the White Bear Lake Legion Bears 12-4 Saturday.

Pryce Velichko had three RBIs with three hits and a run scored and Harrison had three RBIs with three runs scored and two hits.

Cade Moch started the contest on the mound, recording a strikeout in three innings pitched. Asha Frey worked the last three innings, recording two Ks.

The Monarchs lost their second game Saturday, falling 4-0 to St Michael Mike’s Post 567.

Four Monarchs had hits, with Aidan Eckersall, Olinki, Bulluck and Harrison recording knocks.

Bullock started the game, working 3.1 innings with two punch-outs. Ressler pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and Parker Hunt recorded a strikeout against the only batter he faced.

They ended the weekend with a 2-2 draw against the Harrisburg Legion Gold.

Straarup had three hits and Ressler tallied two hits as well.

Harrison started the game, pitching seven innings with five strikeouts. Ressler worked the last two innings, with two Ks.

Knights

The Medicine Hat Knights of Columbus had four games over the weekend.

They kicked things off on Thursday with a pair of games against the Havre Northstars A.

The Knights lost the first game, falling 13-2.

Ethan Grad had a hit and an RBI.

Ayden Anderson started the game, recording a strikeout in his two outs. Ethan Bowey worked out of relief, recording two punch-outs in 3.1 innings pitched.

They rebounded with an 11-7 win over Havre.

Grad led the offence with three hits, recording an RBI and a run scored. Kane Bishop had two hits with two runs scored and an RBI and Liam Cunningham had two runs scored with two hits.

Wade Davies worked 4.2 innings to start the game, recording two strikeouts. James Cole came in relief, with two punch-outs in 2.1 innings on the mound. Jayden Mook worked 1.2 innings with three strikeouts and Cunningham finished the game, recording the final out.

The Knights lost the first game Friday, falling 8-7 to the Lewistown Redbirds A.

Anderson had four hits with three RBIs and two runs scored and Davies had two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Ethan Chenard recorded two runs scored with a hit and an RBI.

Mook started the contest, working five innings with four Ks. Cole pitched 1.1 innings.

They finished the weekend with an 8-0 loss to the Redbirds.

Anderson recorded the Knights lone hit in the shutout loss.

Cunningham started the game on the mound, with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Kane Bishop finished the game, with 1.1 innings pitched.

The Knights six home games this week at Jeffries field, starting with a double header today against the Fort McLeod Royals at 3 p.m.. They’ll host the Tri County Cardinals for a doubleheader Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. and finish the week with a doubleheader Saturday against the Lethbridge Miners at 1 p.m.
