EVELYN STAHL April 3, 1926 ~ June 24, 2024
Evelyn Virginia Stahl, beloved wife of the late Alfred Stahl, passed away at South Country Village in Medicine Hat on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the age of 98 years. She is survived by her children, Loretta (Don) Doig, Gordon (Mary) Stahl and Valerie (Brett) Bischoff; nine grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Rosie Schwab; son, Vernon and daughter-in-law, Margret. Evelyn and Alfred retired to Medicine Hat from farming in the Golden Prairie district. After Alfred’s passing, Evelyn took her amazing domestic skills and worked for We-Care Health services for over 25 years. When she retired, she moved into the condos at Chinook Village. She took immense pride in her home and had one of the best views in the city! Evelyn enjoyed such activities as shuffleboard, cards and puzzling. Sundays were often spent with her granddaughters, Jolene and Kimberly and eventually her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Brydon and Camden. Family was so important to Evelyn. She cherished her memories of holidays where her loved ones were all under one roof. She did well on her own for many years before moving to Sunnyside Care Facility two years ago. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at Sunnyside for their excellent and consistent care. A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901-13 Street. S.W., Medicine Hat, on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery with a time of fellowship to be held thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. TED BIERBACH 1940-2024
Ted Bierbach, beloved husband of Judy, passed away after a tragic ranching accident on June 30th, 2024. He is survived by his wife Judy, sons Jason (Carmen, Jenna and Evan), Wade (Jayda, Anya and Annika). He was predeceased by his parents Emanuel and Elsie, brothers Walter (Mary) and Leonord (Marie).
Ted, known more as Teddy, was born in Roseglen, Alberta on May 26, 1940. He was raised in the Bowmantan district in his early years. The family moved to Medicine Hat in1953, for Ted to be closer to school. He was an average student but excelled with a strong mechanical aptitude. Ted played high school sports, most notably hockey and football. He spent his spare time driving a young Judith Northam around town and leading her down the garden path. Ted graduated from Medicine Hat High School in 1960, and went on for an auto mechanics diploma at SAIT. Ted and Judy continued to date while attending post-secondary school. They returned to Medicine Hat and he became a mechanic at Gardner Motors, eventually attaining shop foreman. Ted continued to be involved with farming a small half section of land during this time. Ted and Judy were married in 1964, and had their first son Jason in 1967. Shortly thereafter another son, Wade arrived in 1970. Ted continued to work at Gardner Motors until 1993, but his true calling was to return to the home farm when his middle brother Leonard passed away. Ted returned to his true passion, being a steward of the land and working with cattle. He was happiest being with his hunting buddies, family camping, fishing, and boating. Ted had a smile on his face while spending quality time with family and friends enjoying a nice meal, stories and laughter. The funeral service will be held in VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH (2793 Southview Drive SE) on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roland Weisbrot officiating. THEO VERHOEVEN 1937 – 2024
Theo Verhoeven of Bow Island, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband of the late Shirley Verhoeven. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Sandra Huizing, Troy Verhoeven (Tara Mason) and Michelle Verhoeven (Brian Stehr); seven grandchildren, Amanda (Cody) Liske, Tanner Ulrich, Alies Huizing, Tyeson Verhoeven, Taylor Verhoeven, Michael Hoehn an Brody Hoehn; one brother Bill Verhoeven; four sisters, Annie, Maria, Nolly and Diane as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley on January 13, 1993; his parents Maria and Reiner Verhoeven; two sons-in-law Duane Ulrich and Douwe Huizing; one brother Eddie and two sisters Nellie and Rita. Theo was born on April 17, 1937, in Oijen, Noord Brabant, Holland immigrating to Canada in 1958. He settled with extended family in the Iron Springs area until moving to Bow Island in 1964, settling with his parents and siblings on the family farm. On January 11, 1969, he married Shirley Anne Scherer in Medicine Hat and they continued to farm with his family. In 1978, he bought the farm from his father and eventually began farming with his son Troy; they continued farming together until Theo was no longer able. In his younger years Theo enjoyed bowling, curling, playing cards, going to ‘turkey shoots’ and was known to cut a rug when dancing. He was he a member of the Bow Island Lions Club and Eagles Club in Medicine Hat, he liked morning coffee and discussing worldly issues at various “local” establishments. He liked watching hockey and the evening news and throughout the week going to the cattle auction sale was always on the agenda; and when ‘the boys’ were old enough to take along, he beamed with pride. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at the Bow Island Cemetery on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr.
