The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Chuckwagon final had its own dramatics Sunday afternoon.

The final heat featured Kirk Sutherland, Chanse Vigen and Rae Croteau Jr., and it was Calgary’s Vigen, who captured the 2024 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Championship.

Vigen, along with outriders Ethan Motowylo and Rory Armstrong, finished from Barrel. No. 2 with a time of 1:02.61, just 1.93 seconds faster than Sutherland from barrel No. 1.

Croteau Jr. crossed the finish line second but was assessed a three seconds in outrider penalties, ultimately finishing third from the No. 3 barrel.

Vigen’s championship win Sunday is his first Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede title.

Sunday’s money winner was Ross Knight, who raced a time of 1:01.67, finishing 18 one-hundreds of a second faster than Evan Salmond, with Jason Glass, Cody Ridsdale and Wade Salmond making out the top-five fastest wagons on the afternoon.

The WPCA Pro Tour moves to Ponoka for the Ponoka Stampede starting on Friday, June 26 and continuing through to July 1.
