The Town of Oyen boundaries will grow July 1 as an annexation order has been issued for land described in a plan to create a new industrial subdivision.

According to the weekly Orders in Cabinet list, published Friday, Oyen will gain portions of two quarter-sections from Special Areas No. 3.

The parcel now sits adjacent to the town’s eastern corporate limits, south of rail line of the Oyen Regional Rail Company.

The entire “Oyen East Industrial” park comprises 177 acres, with three annexed parcels owned by “JICA4 Holdings Ltd.” according to the 2023 structure plan for the industrial park.

It states the land could be divided in to six industrial lots serviced by a new rail spur.

The land extends between Township Road 280 south to a diagonal portion of Highway 41 at a point to join the town’s boundary south of the major highway. The addition essentially creates a square of the eastern limits.
