news@medicinehatnews.com Approximately 500 students from schools in the constituency of Cypress-Medicine Hat took part in an online conference that focused on teaching practical advice and tips on saving, investing and developing the right mindset to achieve financial wellness. Enriched Academy has partnered with the province to develop SmartMoney and deliver financial literacy programs to Alberta students since 2021, and works with students from Grade 4-12. The free online conference held in April used a combination of real-world practical advice mixed into an interactive game show format to get students motivated to learn about money management. “Our mission is to empower students with unbiased financial education that will help them make informed decisions, set financial goals and build financial independence,” says Kevin McCarthy, head of corporations and institutions for Enriched Academy. According to a press release more than 20,000 students participated in this year’s event, and students have consistently rated the program high, and on average doubled their knowledge and comfort with money after taking the course. “Financial literacy is an important foundational skill for Alberta students from kindergarten to Grade 12, and the Government of Alberta is committed to supporting this priority,” says Justin Wright, MLA Cypress-Medicine Hat. “We are proud to partner with Enriched Academy to provide high-quality and engaging financial literacy education to our students, and we congratulate them on the success of SmartMoney.” Enriched Academy says it is looking to expand programming and create new custom content for K-4 students that align with the updated provincial curriculum. 9
