Magrath ready for solstice car show

By Alexandra Noad - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on June 20, 2024.

Magrath will be hosting their annual summer solstice classic car show and shine and parade this Saturday.
What started in 2020 as a means to bring some light during the pandemic, has grown into a yearly event.
Rosemary Minors says her husband’s love for cars is what inspired the event.
“My husband has has always liked classic, like antique cars. He’s got a couple of buddies that have them. They were talking one day and they’re like, we should just get some of our cars together and just drive to Magrath. People can be in their gardens and just bring some joy in a time of uncertainty.” said Minors.
The first year blew Minors’ expectations away when 50 cars showed up to the parade.
The show and shine is expected to start at 4 p.m. with the parade starting at 6 p.m. Both events will start on Harker Ave. W, near the town hall.
Spectators will be able to vote on their favourite vehicles, with prizes being donated from various local businesses.
The event is free to attend and participate in, but donations for the SASH pantry are encourage.
Minors’ husband is hopeful this event will be a success for years to come.
“My husband’s goal is to have 100 cars show up one year.”
