The Medicine Hat Mavericks fell into an early deficit Tuesday and couldn’t climb out of it. The Mavs allowed four runs in the first inning, ultimately falling 11-3 at Weyburn to the Beavers. Medicine Hat came into the contest with an off-day Monday after winning two straight games over the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Athletic Park over the weekend. The Mavs were the ones to open the scoring Tuesday. Brody Gardner drove in a run with a bases loaded, sacrifice fly to centre field. The Beavers answered back in big fashion, scoring four runs on four hits to lead 4-1. They added another run in the bottom of the second. Medicine Hat scored a second run, getting a tally in the third inning on an RBI single from Brady Bean to make it a 5-2 game. John Walsh started the game for Medicine Hat and was lifted in the fifth inning with runners on first and second base, nobody out. Jack Novak took over on the mound and Weyburn finished the inning with three runs for a 8-2 lead. Walsh’s line finished at nine hits allowed, six runs three walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Novak worked two innings with three hits and two runs allowed with two strikeouts. Josh Notle worked the bottom of the seventh, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks with two punch outs. Wyatt Thompson pitched the eighth inning, allowing a lone hit with a run scoring. The Mavs notched a run in the ninth on a pinch hit, RBI single from Micah Dvorak for the 11-3 final score. Weyburn outhit the Mavs 14-8. The Mavs (11-7) stay on the road and are at Moose Jaw on Wednesday for the first of a two-game set against the Miller Express. 13
