Med Hat Tennis Club hosts Father’s Day Classic over weekend

The Medicine Hat Tennis Club celebrated family and tennis over the weekend.

The local club hosted its annual Father’s Day Classic with play on Friday and Saturday.

The tournament, formally known as the Barrie Shave Classic, changed names this season after celebrating the 25th anniversary of the memorial tournament last year.

Craig and Niall Weich won the men’s open division, defeating Calvin and Mason Heller (6-1, 6-2).

Kerry McDowell and Geoff Paulgaard won the consolation, defeating Alex Stevens and Brock Hale (6-2, 7-5).

Lauren Danroth and Dannan McElroy-O’Driscoll won the women’s open division, defeating Sandy McIntosh and Emilee Krushel (6-3, 6-2).

Sheila Reinheller and Eryn Comeau won the consolation, defeating Carla Thorogood and Lilly Laurent (6-2, 3-6, 6-4).

The men’s intermediate division was won by Theron Bensler and Easton Kurpjuweit, they defeated Peter Brinda and Luke Knapczyk (6-3, 6-0).

The next event at the Tennis Club is the Summer Mixed Doubles tournament, July 12-13.
