MARCY ARBEZ 1939 ~ 2024 Peacefully after a brief illness, Marcelline Anne Marie Arbez, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024. Marcy is survived by her children, Alain (Karen) and Susan (Dale); grandsons, Jeffrey and Jason as well as her great-grandchildren, Anastasia and Vincent. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gilles. BOB MACPHERSON

1942 ~ BOB MACPHERSON ~ 2024
Robert Fraser MacPherson, known to everyone as Bob, passed away on May 24, 2024, in his adopted hometown of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Born on August 12, 1942, to Elsie Greenwood and Robert MacPherson in Weston, Ontario. Bob spent the first 46 years of his life in the Toronto area and was a fan of the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays.
Bob was a graduate of Weston Collegiate and Sheridan College and spent many years in the sports equipment industry in Toronto before pursuing a career change in the new field of computing. His career working for Computer Land led to the opportunity to move to Medicine Hat, Alberta. It is in Alberta that he spent the final 35 years of his life listening to country music and AM talk radio. Bob was an avid caller to local political talk radio shows and loved to have a spirited political discussion.
In 1965, Bob married his wife, Elaine Patricia Wallace. Together, they raised two children: Robert MacPherson and Patricia Jane Anne Ferguson. Bob was an involved father, known for his presence at his children’s sporting events and other various activities. He will be remembered for hotdogs and WWF wrestling every Saturday as well as with the creation of the hockey player special sandwich. Bob and his wife, Elaine, were avid Medicine Hat Tigers fans. They spent many years as season ticket holders as well as Host parents for several of the players on the team.
His memory will live on with his surviving family, his wife, Elaine; his children, Bob (Stacy) and Tricia (Shane); and his seven grandchildren, Layne, Ewan, Bailey, Kade, Halle, Marin, and Reese.
The family invites you to attend a celebration of Bob’s life from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm that will be held in Medicine Hat on Saturday, July 6th, 2024. The family will share memories of Bob beginning at 11:00 am and the memorial will be held in the cultural hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1865 Division Avenue N, Medicine Hat, AB T1C 1W4. Following the service, the family will meet, and Bob will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery. BRIAN ASHWICK July 18, 1943 ~ June 13, 2024 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Brian William Ashwick, beloved husband of Arlene Ashwick. Brian passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Besides his loving wife, Arlene, his memory will be cherished by his daughters, Corina (Glen) Hogan and Brenda Ashwick along with their mother, Erika Anderson; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Joshua, Liam, Austin, Allysa and Brandon and one great-granddaughter, Faye; Arlene’s children, Corinna (Dennis) Brown, Clayton (Tammy) Ulrich and Cameron (Brittany) Ulrich; step-grandchildren, Nolan, Sydney, Taylor, Colton, Madison, Jordan, Tyler, Blayke and Alyson and lastly, his trusted companion, Trish Dog. Brian was born on July 18, 1943, in Medicine Hat a son to William and Cora Ashwick. Following a long career in advertising, marketing and display, Brian retired to a lifelong hobby and passion in repairing and revitalizing antique radios and oil lamp collecting. He had a keen interest in current affairs and spent much time watching and reading informative programs. Brian will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SW, Medicine Hat on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David Carter officiating. STANLEY STUBER

STANLEY STUBER 1945 – 2024 Stan passed away on Thursday June 6, 2024, at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his loving wife Beverley (nee Schacher), son Blair (Chamen), grandson Dean Dewalt, brothers Barrey Stuber (Linda), Wes Stuber (Carol), father-in-law Ken Schacher (Marie), mother-in-law Margaret Schacher, brother-in-law Jack Schacher (Lois), sister-in-law Dixie-Lee Egan (Francis), brother-in-law Darryl Schacher (Zoe) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Dean in 1988, parents Emil and Vivian Stuber, sister Shirley Dupmeier and brother-in-law Barry Schacher.
Stan was born on the way to Medicine Hat in a farmhouse in Rosebeg. He went to school in Manyberries; he did not like school so his dad said ” if you don’t want to go to school we will buy another farm”. He started farming at the age of 15. In 1965, he met Beverley Schacher and they were married in 1967. They resided south of Manyberries, in Comrey until 1987, when they moved just south of Medicine Hat.
Stan did contract work for A.G.T. before starting his own company “Stans Cattle and Hay Hauling. Stan was active in the rodeo circuit participating in team roping. He served as a director on the Medicine Hat Stampede Board from 1989 to 2006. Laughter, jokes and teasing were always abundant. The coffee pot was ALWAYS on, strangers and strays soon became friends. Bev never knew who Stan would have sitting in her kitchen (even the odd hitch hiker or someone just broke down on the road) when she got home.

KAREN HORNUNG

KAREN HORNUNG May 8, 1957 June 4, 2024 Karen Joan Hornung of Medicine Hat, AB, beloved wife of Ken Hornung, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, at the age of 67 years. After a courageous, yet tiresome battle with cancer, she is survived by her two children Allen (Jodi) Hornung (of Calgary, AB) and Lynnette Hornung (of Courtenay, BC); three grandchildren Eben, Otto and Bram Hornung (of Calgary, AB); her brother Ken (Hilda) Woldum (of Bearspaw, AB); and many nieces, nephews, and their families. Karen was predeceased by her parents Heiran and Dorothy Woldum (of Strathmore, AB).
A private Celebration of Life event honouring Karen’s memory will be held for her family and close friends on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

DIETER ENGLER 1944-2024 Dieter Engler of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the age of 80 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Shirley; his son Mike (Donna), daughter Melissa (Mike); grandchildren, Tyson (Erica), Allison (Quintin), Cody (Miriah) and great grandchildren Roman, Laikyn, Brooks and Audrey; by his sisters Hannah Smail, Kuni (Steve) Cox, Carol Engler and his brother Walter (Marcia) Engler; brother-in-law Eddie (Marilyn) Moss as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Augustina Lehr, stepfather John Lehr, sister Eva Medd, brother Albrecht Engler, brother-in-law Brian Smail and nephew Mark Smail. Heinz “Dieter” Engler was born on January 12, 1944 at Krembkau, Germany. While in Germany he worked on a barge on the river Rhine until he immigrated to Canada. Farming was always an interest which led to his employment for his Aunt Lili on the farm south of Medicine Hat. Throughout his younger years, he pursued carpentry and received his trade papers at the University of Lethbridge. He helped many family members and friends with their projects. Following his carpentry career, Dieter purchased a share with Deluxe Central Cab company and drove cab for many years. Racing pigeons was an integral part of his life, travelling to many shows, meeting life long friends, and winning many awards. Dieter was also very skilled as a fly fisherman, spending a lot of time in the Cypress Hills. The arrival of his grandchildren then great grandchildren was a great thrill for him. He was an awesome, husband, brother, dad, grandpa and opa and will be missed dearly by all. To honour Dieter’s request, no funeral service will be held. Dieter’s family would like to thank Dr. Bastos, Dr. Malik, ICUnurses: Trisha, Lilia and Trina as well as Dr. Bharwani, Dr. Majeed, Dr. Dirker, Louis from Respiratory and Shaun from the Physio department.
