American Legion Roundup: Majestics pick up two wins over weekend

The U15 Medicine Hat Saamis Rotary Majestics had a winning weekend at home.

The Majestics picked up two wins in a three-game slate, starting and ending the weekend on a high note.

They kicked things off with a 5-4 win Saturday, beating the U15 Outlaws.

Aaron Recio drew an eighth-inning, bases-loaded walk to bring in the winning run for the walkoff victory. Kade Velichko and Dylan Harnett both had a hit and an RBI.

Dustin MacPherson started the game for the Majestics, with nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. Recio finished the game on the mound, recording the final two outs.

They lost the first game Sunday, falling 14-3 to the U15 Consort Cubs.

Jace Berner had a hit and an RBI to lead the offence. Isaac Stenhouse started the game, recording a punch-out in three innings pitched. Hudson Gross and Ethan Bowey combined to work the final inning.

The Majestics finished the weekend with an 8-7 win over the U15 Strathmore Reds.

MacPherson had three hits and two RBIs and Berner added two hits with an RBI.

Dylan Nelson started the game on the mound, recording eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Nixon Davis worked the remaining 2.1 innings, recording three strikeouts.

Monarchs

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs had three games over the weekend against the Helena Senators.

They won the first contest, beating the Senators 4-3 Saturday.

Landon MacPherson had two hits with a run scored, Asha Frey notched a hit, an RBI and a run scored and both Cade Moch and Cade Harrison had two hits each.

Jeff Bullock started the game, recording two strikeouts in five innings pitched. Parker Hunt worked an inning of relief and Harrison recorded the save, notching a strikeout in two innings pitched.

They dropped the second game Saturday, falling 13-1.

Frey had the lone RBI and Trevin Ressler scored a run.

Ressler also started the game, with two strikeouts in three innings pitched. Moch recorded three strikeouts in 2.1 innings, and Riley Tweten had three strikeouts in two innings pitched.

The Monarchs finished the weekend with an 8-6 loss Sunday.

Ryler Straarup had two hits with two RBIs, Bullock had two hits with an RBI and two runs scored and Ressler added two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Straarup started the game on the mound, recording seven strikeouts in three innings pitched. Harrison worked three frames with four strikeouts and Moch finished the game with two punch-outs in an inning on the bump.

Knights

The Medicine Hat Knights of Columbus had a four-game slate over the weekend, picking up three wins.

They kicked things off with a 12-5 win Saturday over the Great Falls Chargers.

Ethan Chenard scored twice and added a hit and an RBI, Ward Davies had a hit, RBI and a run scored. Kane Bishop also added two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

James Cole started the game, recording one strikeout while working all seven innings.

They followed that win up with a 16-2 victory later in the day over the Chargers.

Bishop had four RBIs and two runs scored on two hits. Davies also tallied four RBIs, with a hit and a run scored. Mason Heintz had two RBIs and two hits to lead four runs scored.

Nixon Kunkel worked all six innings on the mound, notching seven strikeouts.

The Knights opened a two-game set Sunday against the Tri-County Cardinals with a 5-0 loss.

Ethan Grad and Owen Fisher each recorded a hit.

Cole Carlson pitched all six innings of the game for the Knights, recording six strikeouts.

They capped the weekend with a 7-6 win over the Cardinals.

Ty Meyer had two RBIs on two hits with a run scored and both Kunkel and Liam Cunningham had two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Grad added an RBI, a run scored and a hit.

Cunningham picked up the win on the mound, striking out two batters in six innings pitched. Bishop recored the save, striking out a batter in his lone inning of work.
