Property tax bills in Lethbridge are set to rise 5.1 per cent for owners of single-family homes in that city. That equates to about $130 per year on the municipal portion compared to 2023 after Lethbridge’s city council approved the change last week. Including the provincial education amount and a smaller local senior’s housing levy, owners of a median home, valued at $327,000, can expect to pay $175 more, or 5.24 per cent, when taxes come due next month. There was no immediate analysis on the effect for non-residential property class. This month, Medicine Hat city council approved a combined 4.7 per cent tax increase to accommodate a $4-million increase in the city budget and increase to the education amount. That translated to an additional $133 per year in total for the owner of an average single-family home, or $672 for a business property valued at $1 million. Tax bills in both city’s were scheduled to be mailed Tuesday, with taxes dues on June 28. 8
