Canadian women’s 3×3 hoops team advances to quarterfinals at Olympic qualifier

DEBRECEN, Hungary – The Canadian women’s 3×3 basketball team is off to the quarterfinals at an Olympic qualifying tournament after defeating Czechia 17-10 on Saturday.

Canada went undefeated in group play after also beating Chile and Lithuania on Thursday and will play a to-be-determined opponent in the quarterfinals Sunday.

The Canadian women must finish in the top three teams in the tournament to qualify for this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

Katherine Plouffe led the way with seven points and seven rebounds for Canada on Saturday. Twin sister Michelle Plouffe added six points and five rebounds in the win.

Meanwhile, the Canadian men’s team fell 21-11 to France in a must-win game Saturday.

They finished with a 1-2 record after beating Spain and losing to Egypt on Thursday.
