The Medicine Hat Police Commission heard Wednesday of several training programs which local officers are involved in this spring.
Medicine Hat Police Service recently held a two-day joint training session on Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation.
Members of the Blood Tribe Police Service, Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service and the Medicine Hat Public School Division participated in the training program, which provided information and strategies to ensure compliance with the protection and security requirement of FOIP.
“This was updating our current practices and making sure we are following the legislation and understanding the legislation,” MHPS Insp. Joe West said during the meeting.
Also recently, two local officers attended a week-long Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor’s Course in Calgary.
The officers were evaluated on written tests and teaching components to ensure development in their driving and instructing skills. Upon completing the course the two officers are now qualified to assist with EVOC training for patrol officers.
A local school resource officer also recently attended a day-long event in Lethbridge focused on mass attacks in public spaces and discussed a threat assessment model that incorporates research-based behavioural themes.
As well, two officers recently attended a three-day K9 Police Quarry School in Edmonton.
