Expect more news coming out of city hall this week about a growing dispute between Medicine Hat’s mayor and other city council members.

Council is set to hear options about expanding a code of conduct complaint process to the general public on Monday night — two weeks after controversy arose when Mayor Linnsie Clark was found to have broken rules, resulting in some of her powers and 50 per cent of her salary removed as a sanction.

The agenda also shows that Clark has formally requested more information about staff compensation over the past four years. That follows discussion of a “sunshine list” last fall and and expanded procedure to deal with complaints were discussed last fall.

Tonight’s meeting, which will be broadcasted here, will also be the first regular meeting of council since the March 21 decision of a special meeting of council.

A schedule of rotating chairs will also be discussed, though it’s likely the meetings will be chaired by the acting deputy mayors whose terms switch every 45 days on a previously set rotation.

Also on the agenda are several public hearings on zoning issues related to multi-family housing projects.

Tigers eliminated from playoffs with Game 5 loss Friday

The Medicine Hat Tigers’ 2023-24 WHL season came to a close Friday night.

The Tigers lost 5-2 in Game 5 to the Red Deer Rebels at Co-op Place, losing their first-round series 4-1. That game story can be found here.

Safe Cracked

A Redcliff man is in custody after city police was called the Connaught Golf Club and later found a large safe that was taken in a rural portion of the city’s North End.

Medicine Hat police report that Cole Marshawll, 37, is due to answer to a charge of breaking and entering in Alberta Court of Justice on Tuesday morning.

Green bins in play

The city’s solid waste department will begin collecting green gins for yard waste this week alongside regular pick up. A pilot project will also ask a select number of Hatters to include food scrapes in their refuse.
