@MedicineHatNews Cypress County has issued a fire advisory, thereby halting burn permits, as it monitors generally dry conditions this spring. Fire restrictions remained in place for most of the summer and fall in 2023. The County of Forty Mile has had a fire advisory in place since last October, giving the power to restrict fire permits on a case-by-case basis. The Special Areas board issued a statement March 13 that dry conditions existed and “extreme caution” should be observed with all open fires. There are currently no fire bans of restrictions in place in Saskatchewan. Top job open in Acadia The M.D. of Acadia Valley is now hiring a chief administrative officer three months after the previous manager took another job in northern Alberta. Jason Wallsmith spent five years with the municipal district located 165 kilometres northeast of Medicine Hat. He is now the chief administrative officer in St. Paul County, northeast of Edmonton. Bow Island talks chickens Bow Island town council is debating bylaw changes that would allow residents to keep four laying hens at private residences. According to a first reading of changes introduced in March, non-transferable licences would be issued with the requirement to maintain an appropriate coop in good condition without roosters present. Fines for contravening the bylaw would be $250 for a first offence. The bylaw is scheduled to return to council for further debate on April 8. Sask. high school plan An $8.8-million price tag for design work on a major renovation at Swift Current Composite High School is among two modernizations and nine new school projects added to that province’s Ministry of Education’s capital budget released last month. 16
