The Medicine Hat Boxing Club was represented on the national stage last week.
Two Medicine Hat boxers were part of Team Alberta at the 2024 Canada Cup Championships last week in Calgary. Medicine Hat coach Kerry Fahlman was also on the staff for Team Alberta.
Nate Vossler from the MHBC lost his first match to Marcus Tallarico from B.C. He then lost his second bout to Giroux Aiden from Ontario, both very close fights Fahlman said.
Asher Softic stopped Ranveer Singh from BC in the first round and then moved on to the gold medal match. Fahlman says Softic was in a small division and boxed Josue Kouie from Quebec in the final.
He lost the bout, earning sliver medal in match that Fahlman says he boxed just in, with the pressure of the big show getting to him as it did with Vossler.
It was both boxers first nationals experience due to COVID-19 shutting down their last opportunity.
As a provincial team, Alberta won six gold, four silver and nine bronze.
