Hawks Sr. boys split opening day of basketball provincials

The Medicine Hat High Hawks senior boys basketball team ended the first day of provincials with a loss.

The first seed Hawks lost 95-90 to the eighth seed Western Canada in their second matchup of the day at the 4A provincial tournament hosted in Red Deer. They kicked provincials off with a 94-66 win over Grande Prairie Composite.

Their next action is today at 3 p.m. against St. FX.

Hat High’s Sr. girls lost their first game, falling 76-54 to the Foothills Composite. They face Notre Dame today at 9 a.m.

The Monsignor McCoy Colts lost their first match of 3A provincials in Strathmore Thursday, falling 89-76 to St. Joseph Falcons. They’ll face the John Maland Wildcats today at 5 p.m.

The Colts girls also lost their opening game, falling 80-26 to St. Albert Catholic. They face-off against Leduc Composite today at 3 p.m.
