SAHA teams wrap up seasons with playoffs

The South Alberta Hockey Academy teams are finishing up their CSSHL seasons with playoff action.

SAHA’s U17 team played in the Tier II Western Championships, finishing in second place.

SAHA opened their tournament with a 3-0 win over the Delta Hockey Academy black team on March 4. Theron Bensler, Grady McLeod and Ty Wasyluk each scored and Mattias Radke made 29 saves.

They followed that game up with a 6-3 win March 5 over OHA Edmonton U17. Cole Fisher had a goal and an assist and each off Jack Elliott, Ryker Klassen, Wasyluk, Koen Gauthier and Berkley Kufflick scored as well. Steven Wawryk made 24 saves.

SAHA continued their momentum with a 4-3 win March 6 over OHA Edmonton black. Kingston Chisholm notched two goals and an assist, Gauthier had a goal and an assist and Ty Hynes found the back of the net. Radke had 24 saves.

They punched their finals ticket with a 7-0 win over Pilot Mound March 7. Wawryk had a 16-save shutout and the offence came from Brennan Finke with two goals, Wasyluk with a goal and three assists and each of Elliott, Chisholm, Gauthier and Bensler scoring solo markers. Klassen had three helpers.

SAHA faced ST. George’s School U17 in the finals March 8, falling 3-2 in overtime.

Hynes had a goal and an assist and Elliott scored as well, Radke made 40 saves.

Women’s

SAHA’s U18 women’s team played in the CSSHL consolation round, sweeping their four games.

They opened their year-end play with a 7-0 win March 9 over Northern Alberta Xtreme.

Brianna Finke had three goals, Keira Grant had two goals and two assists, Kamryn Reiber added a goal and two assists and Keyana Bert chipped in a goal and a helper. Addison Eurich had four assists and Tayler Cohen made 27 saves for the shutout.

They followed that up with a 5-3 win over Pilot Mound Hockey Academy on March 10.

Eurich led the way with two goals and an assist and Grant had a goal with two assists. Lauren Hassler and Reiber each scored and Maddy Ferguson made 18 saves.

SAHA put up six in a 6-1 win Monday over the North Shore Warriors. Reiber with a goal and two assists, Maddison Andrew, Bert and Kiyra Kletzel notching a goal and an assist each and both Hassler and Eurich scoring solo markers. Cohen made 26 saves.

They wrapped up consolation play with a 10-1 win over the Okanagan Hockey Academy black team on Tuesday.

Ferguson turned aside 26 shots and Kletzel led the way with two goals and two assists. Ava Helm had two goals, Marley Howes and Eurich each had a goal and two helpers and all three of Bert, Reiber and Andrew had a goal and an assist. The offence kept coming with Riley Gramlich notching a solo marker and Finke had three helpers.

U18

SAHA’s U18 men’s team opened their CSSHL championship play Wednesday, with a 7-4 loss to the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy. Kolby Gapter, Bruno Petrovics, Cash Olson and Josh Evaschesen all scored solo markers and Nate Yellowaga had three assists. Ben Polhill made 28 saves.

SAHA continues playoff round robin play today against the Okanagan Hockey Academy and faces off against St. George’s School on Friday.
