@MedicineHatNews Finance Minister Nate Horner said there will be “more to come” in terms of provincial spending announcements for southeast Alberta during a business lunch event on Wednesday. “More” that might come during a scheduled lunch-hour announcement today in the Hat from Premier and Brooks-Medicine Hat MLA Danielle Smith related to highway spending. Last week’s provincial budget presented by Horner maintained funding through 2026 to complete the planned twinning of Highway 3 between Taber and Burdett. A construction contract was awarded in late 2023 after work was promised as far back at 2020. Two years ago Smith outlined a plan to tackle twinning the full length from the Hat to the B.C. boundary in a series of more manageable phases, including several tricky sections near the mountains and stretches between Bow Island, Seven Persons and Medicine Hat. A release late Wednesday stated the premier, Transport Minister Devin Dreeshen, Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Justin Wright and officials with the Alberta Motor Transport Association and Volker Stevin Highways division would be on hand in the Medicine Hat to discuss transportation investments in 2024. 7
