Three Medicine Hat males have been charged with assault where members of the public were exposed to bear spray. The Medicine Hat Police Service announced charges laid on the three men after months of investigation. In early December, MHPS responded to two separate reports of random bear spray assaults that occurred in the city. Police say in both incidents the unsuspecting victims were sprayed with a chemical agent, later identified as bear spray, as they were walking. In January, a third incident was reported. After an investigation through the MHPS’s criminal investigation section, three males, one adult and two youth, have been charged. Jared Adam, 19 of Medicine Hat, has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and resisting arrest. The two other individuals charged were aged 15 and 17 years old. The 15-year-old has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous, while the 17-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon. Police say all three victims were treated for bear spray exposure and did not sustain any lasting physical effects from these events. 9
There is more to this story, I am a person who was sprayed in the face on December 5th 2023 when my son and I took my disabled son out on his special need bike to look at all the Christmas lights on the houses. We were almost finished our ride/walk when a car pulled right up beside us. I turned to look and saw a guys arm lunged out of the rolled down window and sprayed me in the face. Within seconds I could not see. Long story short the news says that there are no lasting effects this is not true.
My disabled son is struggling at times and I am still having eye issues
I am thankful the police caught them so they cannot inflict harm on others.
BUT is the justice system going to work so others may think twice before they harm others?
