The Medicine Hat Cubs kept themselves in their prime playoff position over the weekend.

A 5-3 win Friday over the Cochrane Generals and a point from a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday to the Strathmore Wheatland Kings kept Medicine Hat in second place of the South division.

They remain two points ahead of the third-place Coaldale Copperheads with two fewer games played.

The Cubs trailed Cochrane 2-0 early Friday before completing the comeback. Callan Prosofsky had two goals, Brady Mahar and Josh Drefs added a tally each and Keynan Cairns scored the game winner.

Cochrane outshot the Cubs 32-31, with Tyler Wakelam making 29 saves for the win.

Jacob Hazzard and Drefs scored for the Cubs in Saturday’s overtime loss, Dominik Jakielski made 37 saves as Medicine Hat was outshot 39-26.

The Cubs (21-4-4) are on the road Friday against the HJHL-leading Okotoks Bisons. Medicine Hat hosts the Copperheads on Sunday at the Kinplex for a 3 p.m. game.
