Public meetings about the provincial government’s plans to change the health-care system will begin next week in Medicine Hat and southern Alberta.

Telephone town halls have been happening since last month, but now 40 in-person meetings at locations across the province have been set up to garner public input as provincial officials prepare a system overhaul.

The government hopes to create four areas to manage health care as a reorganization of Alberta Health Services into four entities, including primary care, acute care, continuing care and mental health and addictions.

A meeting in Medicine Hat will be held Jan. 24 from 9-1 a.m. at a yet to be announced venue. Registration is now open on the Government of Alberta website.

The first in-person meeting will be held in the afternoon of Jan. 23 in Lethbridge, then move to Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass the following day.

After Medicine Hat, Brooks will host a meeting Jan. 25 before meetings in Oyen and Wainwright in the morning and afternoon, respectively, on Jan. 26.

Meetings will continue until March 15 at locations across the province.
